Washington workshop to create stunning floral decor

January 25, 2021 by

A bouquet of red roses is a long-standing traditional Valentine’s day gift, but a Washington floral designer wants to add some new hues to the mix.

Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens will be welcoming floral designer Ami Wilbur for a class that will teach some of the basics of creating stunning flower arrangements, and the featured color will be purple. It will be an online presentation, and the registrants can choose to either purchase the materials on their own or pre-order them ahead of the event.

The flowers used for this project include stock, lisianthus, and other species, but the exact list will depend upon what is available at the time. For an additional $60 materials fee, anyone who is interested will receive a kit that contains flowers, a container, and some greenery. Everyone will need to supply their own floral shears or scissors, and also some water.

Anyone who chooses to use the pre-packaged materials has been asked to place their order by no later than February 4, and they can be picked up at Hillwood on the date of the presentation. Print shops can design sheets of floral design tips to include with each set of supplies prepared for this sort of activity.

This virtual learning opportunity will be held on the afternoon of February 12. The waiting room for the function will open to registrants at 12:30 pm.
