Washington celebration to salute area oyster shuckers

There is an art to oyster shucking, and a festival that will be putting shellfish front and center will give shuckers time to shine.

More than 20 shuckers will be preparing thousands of oyster for this year’s Chesapeake Oyster, Wine and Beer Festival, which will have lots to offer both seafood lovers and landlubbers alike. Diners will be treated to a selection of more than 20 different types of raw oysters, and these will also be served up in other ways as well.

While the guests enjoy their raw, steamed, and roasted oysters, they can also savor the mussels and clams that will also be on the menu. Pit beef sliders will also be served, and a bloody Mary bar and samples of locally crafted beers, wines and spirits will round out the occasion. Live music will be included, and there will be two sessions for the public to choose from.

Those who are interested in being a part of the celebration can opt for either a VIP or general ticket, and both include a souvenir tasting glass, which will be printed with a fun graphic design, Tickets start at $29.00, and they are on sale now.

The 2020 Chesapeake Oyster Wine and Beer Festival will be held on October 24. Both sessions will be taking place at Dock 5 Union Market, and the first will kick off at 11:00 am.
